General information:

The Wallgraben theatre is one of the oldest private theatres in Germany, situated right in the old town of Freiburg. It was established in 1953 by a group of theatre-enthusiastic students; this was in a former wine and shelter cellar in the backyard of Wallstrasse, as a small cellar theatre (small theatre on Wallgraben).

In 1973, 20 years later, relocation took place into the basement of the New Town Hall in the Rathausgasse. Today, the repertoire of own productions is between classics, entertainment and modern. Numerous guest performances and literary readings round up the program. During the summer months, the Wallgraben theatre exhibits open-air plays in the Town Hall courtyard.

NOTE: most of the plays are in German language only.
