Overview

The tower-like building on the south-western edge of the state-owned Hochburg is what remains of the once fortified estate of the Margraviate of Baden-Hachberg. The Meierhof was built between 1571 and 1573, and provided farm produce for the people living in the castle.

Today, the ‘defensive tower’ that is the historic remains of the Meierhof is used by the Hochburg Society as an archive and documentation centre. There is a small exhibition room documenting the history of the Meierhof. It traces the development of the former farm business into its current form as an agricultural education centre.
