Welcome to Pforzheim

Integrated into the Black Forest, surrounded by the Kraichgau and Stromberg, Pforzheim is the so called golden city – the center of the German jewellery and watch production. The “Oberzentrum” is the ideal point of departure for vacations and trips into the Black Forest. Besides the three rivers and the ideal location as a point of departure the destination serves visitors the possibility to cycle and hike on specially created paths through the Black Forest. On top Pforzheim also offers a diverse cultural life combined with the amenities of a major city.

Pforzheim is known as the destination of the legendary ride of Bertha Benz. In 1888 she aspired to ride from Mannheim into her hometown Pforzheim with the help of the worldwide first patented motorcar designed by her husband Carl Benz. This drive was to go down in history of the automobile as the first overland tour.

The short routes into the mayor agglomerations of Karlsruhe and Stuttgart, a connection to international railways, a short 30 minute drive to the airport in Stuttgart, a 45 minute drove to the airport in Karlsruhe and four motorway connections shape the city as an attractive and easy to reach destination.

The golden city of Pforzheim has something to offer for everyone!

  • The jewellery museum with its one of a kind unique collection of originals dating back up to 5000 years.
  • The “Schmuckweld” (jewellery world) takes visitors on a trip through the real and virtual world of discovery round about the topic of watches and jewellery.
  • The technical museum of the jewellery and watch industry in Pforzheim demonstrates visitors the production of some items live.
  • Since spring 2014 Pforzheim has gained another attraction. The historic gas boiler displays the 360° panorama ROM 312 by Yadegar Asisi. Spectators can see the triumphant entry of Emperor Konstantin and his legionnaires in Rome after the victorious battle against his foe Maxentius in the year of 312. Looking down from a 15m high platform visitors can let their eyes and gaze wander above the ancient metropolis – above the roofs of its temples, palaces, basilicas, thermal baths up to the Alban hills at the horizon.
